“T h e U l t i m a t e T r a d i n g G u i d e”

by
John R. Hill, George Pruitt and Lundy Hill

The timeliness of this new publication couldn’t have been more appropriate as “traditional” investors are now increasingly pursuing shorter term trading attitudes and strategies. The recent explosion in the popularity of such trading styles has caused many to begin searching for methods that have been proven effective in capitalizing on markets with volatility characteristics conducive to shorter term trading. The lure towards applying a systematic approach to trading when managing ones own capital has once again come into vogue. And this reference guide offers much unique and useful information to help the reader accomplish his or her goal of adapting to a systematic discipline in hopes of gaining a significant edge in this ever-expanding arena of volatility traders.

A trading system can be an extremely useful tool provided the trader knows how to correctly use it. Unfortunately, few actually do! This book should prove to be just what such traders need to do the practical preparation, research and development of trading systems to execute strategies with increased confidence and proficiency. John Hill is one of today’s most highly regarded market analysts, independent futures trader and founder of Futures Truth Co. in Hendersonville N.C. Together with his associate and computer systems expert George Pruitt and son Lundy Hill, they have produced a work that should prove to be very successful in helping traders at all levels of experience properly research and develop original trading systems. For those traders looking to employ mechanical methods of trading with considerably less stress than is usually associated with shorter term leveraged trading, this book is definitely a must read!

A trading system in its simplest form is nothing more than a clearly defined set of rules and conditions upon which a trader relies to make decisions to enter and exit market positions with. These rules once researched and applied to a given market must prove to offer the trader consistent results with a demonstrated positive mathematical outcome. Once the trader has discovered such a set of directives to guide trading actions by, then the execution of the given systems rules on a disciplined and consistent basis need only be done to yield the anticipated results. However, a trading system is only as reliable as the criteria on which it is based and the information that is fed into it. In “The Ultimate Trading Guide” the authors clearly explain the principles behind successful trading systems along with the tools needed to develop practical and effective methods based on sound logic and time tested trading approaches. Traders from all investment backgrounds, be they stock, commodity futures, options, foreign currencies, precious metals etc. should find this complete tutorial to be an extremely useful guide to successfully researching, developing and utilizing trading systems properly.

The book is broken down into three main sections that cover the following: First, a section devoted to providing a framework for chart interpretation based upon solid supply and demand characteristics and how to apply this knowledge effectively with various trading techniques. Next is a discussion regarding the education and tools necessary for developing trading systems that not only demonstrate validity in hindsight, but also are designed to be robust enough for application into the future as well. The final section of the guide reveals to the reader actual trading systems and money management schemes that can help a trader get positioned on the “right track” immediately. (I’d like to emphasize that this section can be of most use for the individual who wants to begin applying a system of trading right away for immediate results without having to pursue the leaning curve typically associated with the world of systematic trading disciplines).

The specific trading systems that are fully disclosed in chapters twelve and thirteen by the authors have been rated by Futures Truth Co. as some of the best publicly available over the past ten plus years. (Futures Truth Co. is considered by many to be the “Underwriters Laboratory” of publicly offered trading systems). For the trader who is looking for either short or long term methods of trading to consider involvement with, this chapter alone is well worth the price of the publication. Even day trading systems are discussed and fully disclosed with clarity and insight. Bear in mind though that no one trading tool or method is right for everyone. Such ideas as these together with the trading tools presented are bound to initiate some controversy. Therefore the reader is encouraged to take note of what is considered personally useful, while regarding the rest as perhaps pertinent to other readers with different trading styles and goals. As always it’s best to consider all the ideas presented with the usual healthy skepticism that one would regarding any investment strategy.

To be certain, you will find this publication packed with plenty to ponder, study further and ultimately absorb into practical and extremely useful applications for increased trading performance. The reader should leave the experience of studying this book with a refreshed perspective on the value of adopting a mechanical approach to trading. Clearly the authors state their premise well throughout its pages that such an approach can be extremely valuable when properly understood and applied. This is further supported by the fact that approximately 80% of the $30 Billion in the managed futures industry is traded by exact systematic methods similar to those outlined in this publication. If you’re looking to gain a significant edge in trading, then in my opinion, “The Ultimate Trading Guide” is a one-stop source that will offer you the quality information you seek to enhance your overall system trading results.
